Mr. Smith: We're confused

Dear Bill Smith,

We are confused. Until last week your website said this about the Green Line:

“It makes no sense to spend this much capital on a project that does not reach the new hospital or the suburbs”

Then on October 5 you told the Calgary Sun:

"Has there been a bigger boondoggle in our city?”

and

"We have to figure out, if we’re going to go south, let’s freaking go south, let’s get down there, let’s get to the hospital and let’s figure out a way to make it happen. Or, if we’re going to go north, let’s figure out a way to make it go north. But doing the piece in the middle just doesn’t make any sense.”

Then you deleted this from your website:

“It makes no sense to spend this much capital on a project that does not reach the new hospital or the suburbs”

And you replaced it with this:

“I will work to maximize that $4.5 billion to make sure that on opening day, the line can best serve the most number of Calgarians, in the most efficient and cost effective manner.”

(By the way its $4.65 billion Bill, but what’s a $150,000,000 between friends.)

Then today, you said this on Facebook:

As it pertains to the Green Line and my position, let me be perfectly clear. I assure Calgarians that I will not allow anything to jeopardize the provincial and federal funding that is already in place. There is not, nor has there ever been any plan to cancel the Green Line. Any suggestion to the contrary is wrong and is a ploy to divide Calgarians.

But in the exact same post you said this;

And if the purpose is to move Calgarians, does it make sense to build the middle portion first or concentrate on getting the north or south segments done so people can actually get somewhere?

But, the provincial government made it quite clear that the funding is for this project:

“It’s not a blank cheque,” Brian Mason said Friday, referring to the $1.53-billion funding from the province. “The commitment is for the project that the council has advanced." - Global News, October 6, 2017.

So what is it Bill? Do you support the Green Line or don’t you? We would like to know.
